Nausea and vomiting in palliative care.

Related Articles Nausea and vomiting in palliative care. Clin Med (Lond). 2019 07;19(4):299-301 Authors: Leach C Abstract Nausea and vomiting in palliative care are commonly experienced symptoms, and the aetiology is often multifactorial. The most common causes are impaired gastric emptying, chemical causes (eg medication) and visceral causes (eg constipation). Close attention should be paid to the clinical features which may suggest the likely cause. Antiemetic therapy should be guided by the likely aetiology, although in practice, the clinical picture is often complex, and so regular reassessment is essential for adequate symptom control. Resource Utilization for Prenatally Diagnosed Single-Ventricle Cardiac Defects: A Philadelphia Fetus-to-Fontan Cohort Study.

Related Articles Resource Utilization for Prenatally Diagnosed Single-Ventricle Cardiac Defects: A Philadelphia Fetus-to-Fontan Cohort Study. J Am Heart Assoc. 2019 06 04;8(11):e011284 Authors: Zielonka B, Snarr BS, Liu MY, Zhang X, Mascio CE, Fuller S, Gaynor JW, Spray TL, Rychik J Abstract Background Healthcare resource utilization is substantial for single-ventricle cardiac defects ( SVCD ), with effort commencing at time of fetal diagnosis through staged surgical palliation. We sought to characterize and identify variables that influence resource utilization for SVCD from fetal diagnosis through death, completed staged palliation, or cardiac transplant. Methods and Results Patients with a prenatal diagnosis of…

Emotional disclosure as a therapeutic intervention in palliative care: a scoping review protocol.

Related Articles Emotional disclosure as a therapeutic intervention in palliative care: a scoping review protocol. BMJ Open. 2019 08 26;9(8):e031046 Authors: McInnerney D, Kupeli N, Stone P, Anantapong K, Chan J, Candy B Abstract INTRODUCTION: Emotional disclosure (ED) is a term used to describe the therapeutic expression of emotion. ED underlies a variety of therapies aimed at improving well-being for various populations, including people with palliative-stage disease and their family carers. Systematic reviews of ED-based psychotherapy have largely focused on expressive writing as a way of generating ED. However, heterogeneity in intervention format and outcome measures has made it difficult…

Using structured pathology data to predict hospital-wide mortality at admission.

Related Articles Using structured pathology data to predict hospital-wide mortality at admission. PLoS One. 2020;15(6):e0235117 Authors: Deschepper M, Waegeman W, Vogelaers D, Eeckloo K Abstract Early prediction of in-hospital mortality can improve patient outcome. Current prediction models for in-hospital mortality focus mainly on specific pathologies. Structured pathology data is hospital-wide readily available and is primarily used for e.g. financing purposes. We aim to build a predictive model at admission using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes as predictors and investigate the effect of the self-evident DNR («Do Not Resuscitate») diagnosis codes and palliative care codes. We compare the models…
